These two photos inspired me the most because I love how everything is blurred together and how things that aren't normally emphasized are when you use long exposure. I had some trouble with the lighting at first, because I tried taking the photo during the day like the second one. I couldn't figure it out and eventually tried to mimic the first one. I wanted to know how the second photo was taken, so I found the website below.

5-Step Critique
1. See Above 2. In this photo, I see a few leafy bushes in the foreground with a tree coming up from them on the left. The tree has lots of grooves and branches that reach up out of the photo. Behind the tree is a road with lots of long lights, created from cars driving by. In fron to f the lights there is a shadow thrown on the road by a building. Behind the road there is a building that is very cool to me architecturally. It has lots of different levels, awnings, and textures, with a parking garage and bright windows. There are also two very faint palm trees behind the road. Behind the building it is completely black. I used a 13 second exposure with my camera on a ledge while a stop light turned green to take this photo. 3. The element of art I used intentionally and successfully was line. By taking a long exposure photo, I created brightly colored lines that draw a person's eye, fill up most of the photo and are the focus of the photo. The evidence for this is the positioning and setting of my camera and the lines you see in the photo. The principle of design I used most successfully was movement. These lines are basically blurred lights, which show lots of movement of the cars. They show what has been in the photo and what is moving through it. I also think the element of art line is what tells someone that there is the principle of design movement. 4. I believe that this work is trying to tell how the world moves so fast and it captures one moment out of the speed. It is trying to slow down the rushing of the road and put it into one relaxing image. The lights show the large amount of movement in just 13 seconds and because it is just one image, it seems to slow down time , at least for me. Also, like most of my other photos, it makes me want to go back! 5. I think this work is mostly successful. The placement of the photo draws you in using the three levels of space: The tree in the foreground, the road in the middle, and the building in the background. It is very aesthetically interesting to look at and has lots of detail that isn't distracting. I still think it could be sharper though and more feeling inducing. I would put it up in my home, and I think it could definitely work in a gallery.
