Neon
My first ideas for this photo came from the original inspiration photos I uploaded to my portfolio plan that had a "neon noir" theme. Once I started taking photos with my neon lights though, I saw that some action figures in my room looked really cool in the light, but I couldn't get a clear picture in the dark lighting. So I instead used the flash for good lighting with the neon lights behind the characters, acting as a sort of aura stemming from their heads. These photos reminded me of action figure photography I've seen before like this:
I also tried taking pictures of roses in the very soft, pink light that the lights created, and I thought it fit the noir theme because of the prominence of roses in noir films, comics, etc.
For the editing of this photo, I mostly wanted to soften the harsh light on the action figure, make her stand out more, and get rid of the unnecessary blank space around her. I also knew I was going to miss a lot of open studio time so I wanted to keep editing to a minimum. I cropped it, darkened shadows, and softened edges and lowered contrast.
This was a bit of a rushed photo, but I actually think it looks really cool. It's very simple, but the lighting on the action figure now that resulted from editing it looks really cool, and the lights in the back add a very interesting compliment. SO, I think the simplicity adds to the photo. I also enjoy the somewhat hidden tennis racket in the back that can only be seen if you look really hard.
